Artist of the Week - Jerome Sion

"Aim High" (and a little to the right)

Jerome Sion
NO BLUE CHICKS!!!!!!

In fact, no chicks at all. Yeah, you read that right. Welcome to the world of Jerome Sion. He is a graphic designer that "paints" his stuff in photoshop. Found in the dark corners of the online art world (meaning, deviantArt), I despaired to find that there was not a single hot chick in his repertoire of paintings. So I found myself in an internal struggle - to post his stuff, against all the credo of BCAH  - or to let him languish on my hard drive, undiscovered by you, my adoring fan.

Actually, that struggle lasted about 30 seconds. Then I started typing. Because seriously, this guy's work is phat. Or whatever the current terminology is for the kids these days meaning "cool" or "totally rad".

So please, enjoy these works from a brilliant mind. I know I do. In fact, I started stalking the guy on deviantArt. I hope I didn't creep him out too much.

"A Journey". Remember, wise man say: A journey of a thousand miles ends at an empty plain where the evil overlord's castle is supposed to be. Better double check your GPS coordinates.

"Imaginary Place"

So why am I posting this guys stuff? Most of the pictures I love of his are landscapes, without much else in the way of accoutrement. Maybe it's the simplicity, maybe it's the style. But whatever it is, I find myself thinking of old pulp science fiction covers when I look at his works. Harkening back to a simpler era, of gun toting galactic explorers and their swaggering machismo.

Well, maybe not this one. I think this might be his version of a hot blue chick. A nightmare inducing, brain devouring, life stealing chick. Kind of like my ex-girlfriend.

OK, that might have been an unfair comparison. To tell the truth, I don't know that the lovely vision to the right ever ate any gray matter, or sucked the vitae out of an unsuspecting victim who only wanted to share the beauty he found on the internet with other fellow geeks. It's not my fault you're not a subtle shade of azure, dear. I didn't love you any less for that. Take your stupid cat with you, on the way out.

Sorry, I digress.

Back to our bloody mouthed beauty. Or, maybe we should move right along....

"UE"
This is the second picture of Jerome's that I found. (The first was the "Imaginary Place" image above). As near as I can tell, the UE was inspired by a university in the Philippines called, duh, "UE". At least, that's what I can tell from the description on his blog.

I actually considering breaking my cardinal rule of stalking, and was going to ask him to paint up a blue chick (or, really, any colored chick). But since the number one rule of stalking is, "Don't let them know you exist", I decided against it. But, if Jerome should happen to find this page, please consider it. So that way I might not lose my viewer. And I can keep on keepin' on.

And, if you wanted inspiration, just draw the girl that is obviously "taking care" of  the robot/armored man in your practice picture. Just sayin'.

I reckon I'll knock off now, before Jerome decides to take offense to anything I said about his wonderful artwork. Because seriously, and you know how I can be serious, I am digging his works as much as I dig the latest version of Aayla Secura or a fan edit of Elisha Cuthbert as Supergirl (no, serious. It exists. And I'm going to post it soon...).

In fact, my homage collage to Brooke Burke has officially been replaced by the picture below, "Forbidden Place".

Because the only thing hotter than Brooke Burke's forbidden place is a kickass science fiction painting of a bunch of floating rocks. Hey, you knew there was something wrong with me before. Just let me get my rocks off in peace.

"Forbidden Place" (Or, just "Really Hard to Get To Place"?)

Featured Artist - Jeff Simpson

"The Little Mermaid" Um. I'm wondering if this is from the story of the chick who caught Ariel in a net and gutted her.

So this guy, Jeff Simpson, is on deviantART. I found most of his stuff to be amazing. Like, Hot amazing. But not just the chicks - his style is freaking cool and one of the more original I have seen in my traverses of the mountains of hot chick drawing meme artwork. His non-hot-chick artwork is as good or better.

Plus, he's a self deprecating type who has some great ("This Christmas sucked. So I drew someone having a worse Christmas than I'm having, to make me feel better." "SPEED PAINTING.IGNORE ME.") comments on his work.

Some of his best work reminds me of the covers for Sci-Fi pulps from the middle of the XXth Century. Which ain't a bad thing at all, but it left me with a problem. It was really tough picking out the hot chicks only. And I failed, cuz I've put more than one non-hot-chick-pic in the micks.Er, mix.

"Teeth in the Grass"

From the artist:

"SPEED PAINTING.

IGNORE ME."
It's hard to ignore her, though. I mean, seriously. "Teeth" in the grass. Where? Leaves quite a bit to the imagination. And quite possibly for the best.

Although maybe it's referring to the teeth of two hot girls rolling around in the grass in front of this hot chick, and there's some missing picture that Jeff hasn't gotten around to sharing yet.

But would, if someone commissioned him to. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

"The Countess" is next on the roster. Not hot so much as striking. And I wonder if she just had some sushi that her purple friend at the top of the page caught. You know, I wonder if that's another painting we should have commissioned. But anyway, I dig on the form and dark content of this one.

Not as sexy, true, but you can imagine her coldly ordering the assassination of some political rival without a wince, and then comforting the poor victim's next of kin with genuine remorse on her face. Kind of like some of my exes.

And did I mention I really dig the storybook looking framing that's part of the picture?

Next piece of sushi, please.

This next is another spin-off blog in the works, I think. "Brown Chicks Underwater With Leaves For Clothing And Weird Planescape Hockey Mask Accoutrement Wielding Daggers Are Hot".

...it's the fight in the fish

Getting ready to kick some tail. Yeah, OK. I'm taking the fish metaphor a bit too far. But can you blame me? This is the guy with the fish fetish, not me. I'm just reporting. ;)

So anyway I promised 2 other pictures besides just hot chicks. There are more of them, so definitely check out his stuff on his deviantART page. But here's one of my faves in the meantime:

Darth Samurai

But I've decided, if BCAH ever decides to write a children's story, we want JEFF to do the illustrations. Because we don't believe in those namby pampy kid's books of today that are all sanitized and pure and full of smothering goodness. We want the old school Grimm, the Hans Christian Anderson, the REAL bedtime stories to scare the bejesus out of kids so they behave better.

And this would be our banner villain. Or maybe good guy. Not really sure. But whatever Jeff Daniels can draw, he can draw hot blue chicks.

"Sinker" ....(I hardly know her...)
So that about wraps up our post for this months Featured Artist. I will leave you with my hands down favorite of his images, the 2nd one that isn't a hot chick. "My Daydream". This was me in school, but about a zillion times better than I could have ever drawn...

Blue Female - Annemarie McCambridge

Blue Female
Acrylic by Annemarie McCambridge

The hot blue chick in this acrylic painting by Annemarie McCambridge is one of her finer pieces. She does surgery paintings as well. Not exactly sure why, but the one with the view of the doctors looking down from the perspective where you are the patient...little creepy. Even for me. But the blue chick - I would compare her to Aayla Secura, or maybe that hot blue Andorian chick by Chonastock.

I like her style in this - it is more evocative than most of her other works.

Notice the use of the darker hues to denote the shadows on the body, fading into the darkened background. It's a great use of chiaroscuro, if I ever saw one. And the lines are sexy like noone's business.

I highly recommend this artist if you're looking for something to hang on your wall.

I'll leave you with "Last Thing I Saw".
